What are the main Causes of Obesity ?
Dr. Denis Burkitt revealed the main Cause of Obesity in the early 1970′s !
In the early 1900′s Sir Robert Macarrison warned of the dangers of over-processing food. Then Capt. Cleave, a British naval physician dramatically demonstrated the beneficial effects of bran in the diet. He was the chief medical officer aboard the battleship "King George V" in W W II. He presented compelling evidence that a number of diseases related to the consumption of over refined carbohydrate foods.
In his book "Eat Right to stay healthy…" Dr Burkitt points in chapter 4 – "Look to your Diet". He researched life in underdeveloped countries and compared the way of life in the Western world. Prior to the 20th century Western degenerative diseases were largely unheard of. He found the main cause lies in critical aspects of our modern lifestyle, the main culprit being traced to the consumption of refined carbohydrate foods leading to, " fast food obesity".
The food component which changed the most in the Western diet was the fibre content. Although the total consumption of fibre has not changed drastically, the kind of fibre has. It is the lack of cereal fibre which is the main cause of many western diseases today. There are many kinds of important fibres however Cereal fibre plays a most significant role in the digestive process.
A High fibre diet from natural unprocessed food provides many beneficial factors to health including:
- stimulates digestion by requiring chewing food
- controls energy absorption
- reduces absorption of fat and cholesterol
- flushes poisons and harmful substances from body
- controls blood sugars maintaining steady insulin levels
- reduces caloric intake
- lowers overall food intake by reaching satiety sooner
- reduces transit time and eases elimination
- keeps GI tract stimulated, clean and healthy
The basic concept of health is that of wholeness. This is your obesity diet and is THE safe weight loss diet. The more natural the diet the more free from refined, processed foods the healthier the life. The proverb that "man cannot live on bread alone" has been misinterpreted to where man consumes no whole grains today. Western society today has no conception of what real bread is nor what healthy bread was like in past centuries.
Do a search for whole grain breads in your local stores. I challenge you to find a healthy whole grain loaf with no refined ingredients or white flour whatsoever !
